Reduced Message Type

In what situation, we might need to create reduced message type?

1. When we want to send only partial data, where not all segment is required

2. When we want to create partially customized IDOC, by adding certain custom functionalities to it. One example would be when we don't want to change the original IDOC behavior, as the original IDOC might be used in other scenario. However, for certain scenario, there is a requirement to update certain information into custom table for example through exit. For such a case, it's much easier to create a reduced message type rather than creating a totally new custom IDOC

Herewith is the step by step required to create reduced message type:

1. Create reduced message type using transaction BD53

2. By default, mandatory fields and segments is included. Select other optional segments or fields you need in the reduced message type.

3. Once you have save it, then the reduced message type is ready to be used. And you can create the enhancement by using this custom type as a filter.
