IDOC Extension

If the SAP standard IDOC does not satisfy our requirements, then we have the option to enhance or either to create a new IDOC type. For the sake of easy maintenance, I would recommend to make use of SAP enhancement concept in IDOC before creating a bespoke one.

Below is the step by step to enhance the IDOC, which is commonly called as IDOC extension

1. Create custom IDOC segment type using transaction WE31

2. Create IDOC extension using transaction WE30

3. Make sure the custom message type (WE81) is linked to the IDOC extension (WE82)

4. Make sure to use the IDOC extension in your partner profile configuration (WE20)
