In today's blog, nature photographer Ram Chary pays tribute to two of the best environmental photographers in the world today – Cristina Mittermeier and Brian Skerry.

Cristina Mittermeier

Cristina Mittermeier is a phenomenal environmental photographer. She has used her abilities to raise awareness of an amazing variety of environmental issues throughout the world. Mittermeier is best known for her marine conservation work but has also focused on raising public awareness about deforestation in the Brazilian Amazon, Indigenous Rights in Central America, and poaching.

Mittermeier's success and acclaim within the conservation community have led to her co-founding of the International League of Conservation Photographers (ILCP) in 2004. Mittermeier's sought to create an organization that could bring awareness about environmental issues to the public through photography.

Brian Skerry

According to Ram Chary, in environmental photography, Brian Skerry is nothing short of an icon. Skerry's seminal work has been featured in National Geographic and Outside magazines, earning him several awards, including the 2006 Lucie Award. He also holds the honor of having one of his pictures displayed at the Smithsonian Museum.

What sets Skerry apart from other photographers is his dedication to conservation. The photographer has spent the last 20 years photographing marine mammals and oceans, deteriorating for decades due to human activity. Ram Chary adds that his current work focuses on documenting these issues as he travels to different parts of the world to showcase what life under the sea looks like.
