There are very few cities in that world street, and urban photographers hold in high regard as New York City. The Big Apple simply has everything for everyone, and a whole lot more. Everything is just bigger and more urban, thicker and grittier.
If you’re planning a trip there to add to your portfolio, here are some tips that may help you along the way.
Preparation is key.
As with any shoot, preparation is key. For New York City, plan your schedule around your research. While the Big Apple is extremely photogenic as a whole, certain places are worth more of your time than others, depending on your preference. Know if you want to prioritize architecture, humanity, history, or something else entirely.
Stick to a single place.
New York City is massive. It’ll take you months to shoot all the place worth shooting. For practicality’s sake, and if you are only spending a couple of days there, stick to a single place. It’s more meaningful that way. You can spend time in Brooklyn, shooting the historical landmarks there, and leave Manhattan for when your return. Sticking to a single place also allows you to get a more intimate feel of the living city, as you can observe the people more.
