We all know the importance of recycling, but somehow we’re not used to doing it. Maybe we haven’t been taught to recycle as kids because it’s not a trend but a way of life. Now that the earth is not getting any better, we have to teach our kids how to recycle and make it a part of their culture. The following are simple lessons kids can understand to help the next generation be environmentally conscious.

1. Read them books about recycling
Kids love it when their parents read them books. What better way to teach them than when they have their full attention on you? Replace some of their bedtime stories with books about recycling.
2. Make personalized bins
Help them know the principle of segregation by letting them make their own bins. Make recycling bins for paper, bottles, and plastics. Put images of what will go inside. This will make it fun for them and will look forward to filling up their bins.
3. Play games using recycled materials
Teach kids that they don’t need new toys to have fun by helping them make toys out of recycled materials like plastic bottles. You’re not only teaching them to recycle but you’re also waking the artist in them.

4. Visit a recycling center
Make it a family trip, I’m sure the kids will be excited. Meet the people that work there and learn where all your recycled materials go. You can also schedule volunteer work for your family.
