Muammar Qadhafi, accused of crimes against humanity. International Criminal Court arrest warrant launches

International Criminal Court (ICC) announced Monday the launch of an arrest warrant against Muammar Qadhafi, crimes against humanity committed in Libya starting on 15 February.

"Camera delivers hereby an arrest warrant against Muammar Qadhafi," said Judge Sanji Monageng Mmasenono during a public hearing in The Hague.

Judges have also issued arrest warrants for crimes against humanity on behalf of Safe Al-Islam, Qadhafi's son and the Libyan intelligence chief, Abdullah Al-Senoussi.Prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo asked judges at the May 16 arrest warrants against the three men. He accused them of being responsible for crimes and persecution perpetrated by the Libyan security forces against civilians, after the outbreak of rebellion in mid-February, particularly in Tripoli, Benghazi and Misra.Before the UN Security Council on 26 February, ICC prosecutor opened an investigation on March 3.Libya uprising ended with thousands dead, according to the ICC Prosecutor.
