Peggy Ashcroft was Mrs Moore in Director David Lean's "A Passage to India". For this she won the 1994 Oscar for Best Supporting Actress.

Bangalore Club, with its colonial interiors, was one of the shooting locations for the film. As members of the club, we were able to get to watch. One scene I recall being shot was that of Peggy Ashcroft with Judy Davis, walking inside the club's lounge. During one of breaks between takes, I ran over to them both and requested them to sign in my autograph book. While Peggy Ashcroft obliged, Judy Davis flatly refused. I also got David Lean and Victor Banerjee to sign.
