While with stage make-up, more isn’t even always enough; on TV, less can still sometimes be too much. Participants will experiment with how to use make-up to look natural, because one’s natural skin-tones are often quite unforgiving on TV. Similarly, we will experiment with how one’s everyday make-up often looks garish on TV and should be carefully toned down.

Here we will experiment with the color triangle for ‘light,’ which is different from the color triangle for opaque materials. For example, all colors mixed together in paints results in a dark, muddy color, while all colors mixed together for TV result in clear light.
PRESENTATION OVERVIEW
Virginia Callens Gregg, PhD - Retired professor of Film/TV and Communication Studies at MN State University Moorhead has taught radio/TV performance and communication studies for over 45 years. She has taken workshops on TV/film makeup, and has personally observed the tedious work of Hollywood TV and film makeup artists, for both natural appearance and for special effects. Virginia has also offered seminars on TV makeup at various conventions, and provides advice for educational personnel who are now teaching on-line.
