Performance:KUCHIPUDI NATYAM:A classical dance form of INDIA.

Temple Ritual Dance - Prenkhini Natyam: Simhanandini is a song , where in the dancer paints a picture while dancing with footwork, which is an age-old practice in temples of India. During ancient time, temple dancers used to dance in front of the Rath-the chariot, before the start of Rath Yathra (journey) on festive occasions and used to form the pictures of Vaahana of the temple deity with footwork on the color powder, spread in front the Rath. They used to form the pictures of Lion, Vaahana-vehicle of Goddess Durgadevi in Simhanandini dance, likewise picture of Peacock, Vaahana of Lord Kumaraswamy in Mayura Kauthvam dance and picture of Lotus, Aasan of Goddess Laxmidevi in Mahalaxmi Udbhavam dance. Late C. R. Acharya conducted research in temple ritual dances and brought back to lime light once forgotten Prenkhini dance form. Achutamanasa is a disciple of Guru Kaza Venkata Subrahmanyam in Kuchipudi and Guru Voleti Rangamani in Temple Ritual Dance - Simhanandini. In this, the dancer depicts how goddess Durga - a mother -women fights over a evil to protect her children. It is winning good over bad.

Followed by Vandemataram, praising Mother, Mother nature. Kuchipudi has evolved from mythological aspects to social aspects making Kuchipudi secular,earthly. Kuchipudi dance know no geographical boundaries, no linguistic barriers and no racial division. Because dance in India doesn't evolve from man but from humanity. "Natya" means Dance originated in India to resolve problems and has been addressing various issues from time immemorial. All walls crumble where art is concerned.It is a great unifying and integration force.

Workshop:

Introduction of Kuchipudi Natyam and its Basics followed by the technique involved in Tarangam: The technique of performing classical dance - Kuchipudi to various rhythms/jathis/adavus by putting the feet on rim of the brass plate.

Display the images of “Navarasas” The nine emotions mentioned in Natyasastra,Various characters portrayed from Mythology to modern history of India and The temple ritual dances.

Achutamanasa will share photos of 'Navarasas' according to Natyasastra (8+1 images). Natyasastra is a detailed treatise and handbook on dramatic art that deals with all aspects of classical Sanskrit theatre. Its many chapters contain detailed treatments of all the diverse arts that are embodied in the classical Indian concept of the drama, including dance, music, poetics, and general aesthetics. Also, various mythological characters in dance along with 'Temple Ritual dance' Simhanandini, mayurakavtvam and Mahalaxmi udbhavam photos where in the dancer paints a picture with the footwork while dancing (3 images) will be displayed.

PRESENTATION OVERVIEW

Achutamanasa, a renowned Kuchipudi danseuse of India ( www.achutamanasa.in)will be presenting Performance “Kuchipudi Natyam” - a classical dance form of India originated from Andhrapradesh, a state in India. Presentation will start with the famous repertoire of Kuchipudi i.e Tarangam, written in Sanskrit by Saint Narayanatheertha.The descriptive composition flows like wave of ocean hence called Tarangam.Tarangam in Kuchipudi involves rare footwork called ‘adavus’-various rhythmic patterns where dancer places her feet firmly on the rim of a brass plate performing pure nrittha(pure dance) immersing in devotion-‘bhakti rasa’.In this song, the dancer establishes mythological episodes of Lord Krishna’s life. The dancer depicts his childhood pranks,and his artistry evoking nature . It throws light on salvation-the very purpose of human being to lead a purposeful and peaceful life ,ultimately unifying our soul to the supreme soul and hence classical dance of India is synonym to yoga and vice versa,elevating the devotee-the soul surrendered to the divine, to a world of Spiritual Ecstasy.
