Catholics have made a big push to convince the world the Apocrypha was scripture using books like Enoch to make the case. The reality is gnostic Jews accepted and kept the Apocrypha. That does not mean they were all historically false, I am sure some history was true while other stories were false. Much was Rabbinical commentary. Yet, Catholics need it to be scripture or they become fools in front of the world. Their councils become discredited.
Catholics focus on the words "Enoch prophesied" from the book of Jude. They try to substitute prophesied with scripture. This is a bad idea because many people prophesied without their speeches becoming scripture. Consider I Corinthians 14 where two or three prophets could prophesy, but none of their speeches became scripture. We do not know their names or their content. We see this also with Phillips daughters, they prophesied but the content was not placed as scripture. We see this over and over again.
The other problem is the word prophetes is transliterated into English, in the original it did not mean to give divine revelation but often meant any speech without regard to source. It could be inspired from God or simply learned. This word doesn't prove it is divine revelation.
The word also contradicts the term written. The prophets of the old testament had their speeches written. The word prophesied doesn't infer written. The word scripture has the idea of script embedded.
The book of Jubilees contains references to Enoch and Adam, and it appears it references oral tradition passed down. Enoch never wrote.
Jubilees 19:27 Jacob, my beloved son, whom my soul loves, may YAHWEH bless you from above the firmament, and may He give you all the blessings wherewith He blessed Adam, and Enoch, and Noah, and Shem; and all the things of which He told me, and all the things which He promised to give me, may he cause to cleave to you and to your seed forever, according to the days of heaven above the earth. So there is internal evidence against it being written as scripture. Jubilees references the words of Adam and Enoch. It was passed down.
This does not mean all of the Book of Enoch was passed down but could be scurrious, as it gives Solomon power over demons to build Jerusalem. This could be why Catholics are anti Jerusalem.
The book of Jubilees can also be discredited since it disagrees with Paul's statement in Galations.
And Abraham saw the deeds of Esau, and he knew that in Jacob should his name and seed be called; and he called Rebecca and gave commandment regarding Jacob, for he knew that she (too) loved Jacob much more than Esau.
Paul stated Jacob was chosen before birth before any works transpired. Jews wanted to make our calling based upon works. It was a common theme in the apocrypha. It was of Jewish origin and reflected their views.
Romans 9:11
(For [the children] being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth;)
