More Jesus Less Tradition
More Jesus and less tradition is a battle cry of the faith only movement. They believe we are saved by faith in Christ only, so focusing on traditions is a waste of time and divisive.
Sounds good, but we are commanded to keep the traditions delivered in multiple passages. Overlooking Christ commanded traditions would actually dishonor Christ.
2Th 2:15 Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.
2Th 2:16 Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace,
2Th 2:17 Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work.
The works of every good word, is likely the Gospel record of Christ as taught publicly, and every good work is anything we do to obey Christ.
Baptism and the Lord's Supper are both Christ commanded traditions.
The term tradition also means the teaching about Christ. By keeping the traditions you are actively teaching about Christ.
Christ's Pre-existance
His conception
His birth
His presentation
The wise men
The killing of the innocent
His childhood
His baptism
His temptation
Calling the Apostles
His Galilean ministries
Cleansing the temple
His weeping over Jerusalem
Lord's Supper to the Disciples at his last Passover
His death
His resurrection
The great Commission and baptism
His assumption
Acts of the Apostles - Christ worked with them
Sending the Holy Spirit
Watching the Martyrdom of Steven
Lord's Supper delivered to Paul
Plus, any other record we have of Christ in the New Testament, these are all traditions.
Men wanting more Jesus and less tradition are using the term in a very immature way. If you drop traditions you do drop Jesus.
Also, keep in mind men want to drop tradition so they can paint a different Christ in their own image, instead of keeping the Biblical record.
Gal 1:6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:
Altering traditions is a different Gospel.
