Be and Put On
In baptism we find two words of personal consent.
Be baptized
have put on Christ
Both phrases from Acts 2:38 and Galations 3:27 express man's consent in receiving Christ's sacrifice for his atonement.
The association of consent is strong enough that Ananias told Paul that in baptism he would wash away his sins. Even if God actually forgives the person, the subject is in direct interaction with God and is part of the process. Paul was to
Arise
Be baptized
wash away sins
calling upon the name of the Lord
4 distinct actions showing consent and interaction by Paul.
Act 22:16 And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.
This interaction is important because obedience expresses belief (In baptism God is justifying by faith)
Mat 21:32 For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye had seen it, repented not afterward, that ye might believe him.
Belief and completion are used interchangeably, obedience expressed belief in the way of righteousness.
Belief in Jesus usage is when you repent to his message. A person is justified when obeying through belief.
while disobedience would certainly express disbelief.
Heb 3:17 But with whom was he grieved forty years? was it not with them that had sinned, whose carcases fell in the wilderness?
Heb 3:18 And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not?
Heb 3:19 So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.
Sin and argumentation are expressions of disbelief. Baptists arguing against baptism for remission of sins simply express disbelief in God's word. Catholics removing freewill in baptism express disbelief as well.
Both groups become self-condemned through disbelief.
God's word helps discern men's hearts.
Heb 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
God discerns men's hearts through the gospel process, including faith, repentance, and baptism.
