Today is the summer solstice here in the United Kingdom.
The summer solstice is the day when there is the longest period of daytime throughout the year. After a few days the nights start to draw in, until 21 December, when the winter solstice occurs. This is the shortest day in the year when daylight is at its minimum.
There are usually cermonies and celebrations held at Stongehenge in Surrey. Stonehenge was built many centuries ago, mainly as a Druid temple where they worshipped the Sun and stars, and on this day and the 21 December, there is supposed to be a perfect alignment of the Sun through a temple stone in the Henge.
