Birthday Memories of my Grandma

Today would have been the 102nd birthday of my beloved 'Mamma' - my Grandma Greasley.

Lilian Frances Greasley was born on 9 February 1909 in Chichester, West Sussex to Thomas and Hellen Morris. She married my Grandad Greasley on 3 April 1931 and gave birth to my Aunty Jean on 3 January 1932. My Mam (Mother) was born the following year on 14 March 1933. She gave birth ton their only son in September 1937. He was tragically killed on 13 February 1941, when he was runover by a bus. My grandmother never truly got over that and it caused problems in her relationship with my grandfather and my mother and aunty.

My Grandad, Frank, died on 25 November 1972, at the age of just 62 years, following a brain haemmorage and my beloved Mamma was a widow for 25 years, when she passed away on 5 January 1997, following heart and lung problems, just one month short of her 88th birthday.

I miss her with all my heart and wish I could once again wish her 'happy birthday', but if she was alive she wouldn't have been thankful for me wishing it her today, because for all of her life she always thought her birthday was the 8th February, until she applied to get her passport to go abroad with my Grandad and she found out her birthday was actually the 9th February - she still always celebrated it on the 8th February though.
