GORDON BROWN (Labour) - currently Prime Minister
DAVID CAMERON (Conservative) - currently Leader of the Opposition
NICK CLEGG (Liberal Democrat) - currently hoping!
Well, the second prime ministerial debate has taken place tonight, with the gloves seeming to come off and more aggressive exchanges between the three leaders taking place.
Last week, Nick Clegg (Liberal Democrat leader) won the debate with his party surging ahead in the polls, pulling the rug out from under the main two parties, and making their leaders (Gordon Brown - Labour leader and David Cameron - Conservative leader) look uncomfortable.
This week, the debate was about defence, and mainly what the three leaders and their parties would do about Trident, the UK's nuclear deterrent. Gordon Brown and David Cameron seemed to attack Nick Clegg more ferociously on defence, and the Liberal Democrat's policy of scrapping the nuclear deterrent altogether, pumping all the money saved into the armed forces conventional defences.
To me, although this debate was more personal, it wasn't as good as the first debate. With the first debate, history was being made, being the first-ever televised debate of all the main party leaders. This debate hasn't really produced a 'winner' as such, so the competition for who will run the country after the 6th May, hots up some more.
