The final of the FIFA World Cup 2010 in South Africa has ended with a one goal to nil finish for Spain against the Netherlands. The goal came in the second half of extra time.
The Dutch seemed to play a dirty game against the Spanish, and there was a sending off, but the Dutch were lucky that they didn't lose more players, as eight of the Dutch team were booked. The referree, from England played a neutral and quality game against both sides (I have to say that because he was English!) and was, in my opinion, quite leniant, especially to the Dutch players.
The whole World Cup games have been exceptional for the behaviour of the fans from all over the world, and the people of South Africa made it a very warm and friendly place to be for everyone who visited. The highlight was the closing ceremony, when former South African President Nelson Mandela, who is 93 years old next week, was paraded around the Soccer City Stadium in an open-top buggy with his second wife. The crowds, from all nationaliities, cheered for him and he looked very happy to be there.
My personal opinion of the games is that it has been a very friendly games amongst the fans of football. My country, England, deserved to be kicked out when they were, they were pathetic. But there was some wonderful games of football to be seen, and personally, the best team, Spain, won the match fairly - Viva a Espana!
