Cerebral Palsy Greece, Athens-Greece ( CPG) was founded in 1972, by a group of parents to provide care for people suffering from Cerebral Palsy in Greece. It is a non-profit NGO with nation-wide and acknowledged pioneering activities in the field of disability. It offers a wide range of services for diagnosis, medical care, therapy, treatment, rehabilitation, education, social integration, recreation and vocational training of children and adults with CP.
Cerebral Palsy Greece was founded in 1972, by a group of parents to provide care for people suffering from CP in Greece. It is a non-profit NGO with nation-wide and acknowledged pioneering activities in the field of disability. It offers a wide range of services for diagnosis, medical care, therapy, treatment, rehabilitation, education, social integration, recreation and vocational training of children and adults with CP. More than 3,000 families have received the Society’s support over the years, and at least 250 persons of all ages, attend its daily programmes. Also, its objectives are: inclusion of persons with disability, both in the family and in the wider cultural life of the community, education and training of specialized staff, public enlightenment, scientific research, promotion of the necessary legislative and government measures.
It works closely with the Ministries of Welfare, Education and Employment. It is organizational member for Greece of International Cerebral Palsy Society (ICPS).
It will be responsible for coordinating and monitoring of WP6, preparing draft training modules format containing size, shape and design, methodology, feedback form for partner countries for first revision of developed training modules. In addition to that, CPG will participate dissemination and exploitation activities in Greece. Besides, it will take part producing report of state of art related to Greece, needs analysis reports for parents and teachers of children with CP(03-18 age group) regarding Greece, development of at least one training modules for parents and/or teachers, conducting pilot trainings for parents and/or teachers to test at least two developed training modules, testing web-based information tool with one of the target group of the project. It will also ensure management of the project in Greece, by providing effective communication and collaboration with related stakeholders in the project and among partners of the project.
Eleni Roditi (Greece)
She is an economist. She has worked at CPG since 1998 as Head of European Affairs Department. She is responsible for planning, monitoring implementing national EU projects organizing international meetings, seminars, training courses. She is director of CPG’s Vocational Training Centre since 2009. In 2008, she was member of Coordinating Team on a pilot EU project on special education for students with CP covering training course development of educational modules. She also gave an article on “The history of special education in Greece” at Preliminary Survey on “Development of Special Education for people with special educational needs in Greece”, CPG, 2008. She is a member of International Cerebral Palsy Society Executive Board since 2006.
She has a degree in Social Work. She has worked at CPG since 1974 and holds post of General Director since 2004. She cooperated closely with the Greek Ministry of Education for establishment of a Public Elementary School for children with CP on the premises of CPG. She has long experience in organizing, implementing and evaluating EU projects. In 2008, she was project manager of a pilot EU project on special education for students with CP, including a training course for special education teachers,teachers’ assistants and development of educational modules (Published educational modules and seminar minutes in “Development of Special Education for people with special educational needs in Greece”, CPG, 2008 (in Greek).
Ioanna Sgouromali
She is a child neurologist, specialized in CP. Since 2000 she has held post of Scientific Director of CPG. She is a member of Assessment Committees for clients in CPG’s educational,rehabilitation programmes and for students in Public Elementary School. She firmly believes positive interaction between rehabilitation and education. In 2008, she was a member of Coordinating Team of a pilot European project on special education for students with CP implemented by CPG, participating in the training course for special education teachers, teachers’ assistants and in the development of educational modules (Published educational modules and seminar minutes in “Development of Special Education for people with special educational needs in Greece',CPG,2008 (in Greek).
Katerina Psara
She is a psychologist with a master’s degree in Applied Psychology. She has been working as Director of Services since 2007. She is a member of the Assessment Committees for clients in CPG’s educational and rehabilitation programmes and for students in Public Elementary School. She is responsible for kindergarten, developmental groups. She coordinates services offered by CPG to public school students. She is a member of CPG’s Vocational Training Centre. In 2008, she was member of Coordinating Team on a pilot EU project on special education for students with CP, implemented by CPG, participating in development of educational modules. In 1993-1996 she represented Greece on the Study Group on “Functional Rehabilitation” of HELIOS II EU Initiative.
Miranda Karamichalis
She is a ocial worker, with Masters’ Degrees in Social Sciences and Coordination of Social Services. She worked in UK. in the field of social work (including disability) for 15 years. She works at CPG for 6years, as Head of the Social Work Department. She is responsible of services provided to parents (personal support, group meetings, seminars, etc.). She cooperates closely with the Department of Research and contributed actively to the following research projects: Published (in Greek): "My brother and I: The siblings of people with CP look to the future"”, CPG, 2004, "My home and I: The home of the person with CP”, CPG, 2007. She is a member of CPG’s Vocational Training Centre. She has been teaching Social Sciences for more than 10 years.
