Los Cascarones

Huevos de Confeti

Learning Targets

1. I understand the history of los cascarones well enough to explain it, specifically what the word means, where they originated, how they got to the Americas and what they are used for today.

2. I can make and use cascarones in a culturally appropriate way.

First, take a look at these cascaron creations.

These were created by students and teachers in spring, 2018. We did them with the art class and decorated them with Zentangles.

What are zentangles?

Sometimes, cascarones are fancy, like these.

Sometimes, they are simply dyed one solid color.

And, sometimes, they are left white.

No matter the outside appearance, they have this in common: they are egg-free and filled with something like confetti or flour and sealed with tissue paper.

Then, read about the history.

After learning about them, make some cascarones!
