Demonstrative Adjectives

Demonstratives work like definite articles: They have gender and number.

Their singular masculine has an E (like el) but turns to an O in the plural (like los) while singular and plural feminine forms both have the A.

"This and These have the T, while that and those, no T goes and A is for far away. "

Plus Aquel and Aquella

Plus Aquellos, Aquellas

Demonstrative Pronouns

Remember that an adjective ACCOMPANIES a noun while a pronoun REPLACES it.

Note: Edgenuity and some teachers are still teaching the accent marks on the demonstrative pronouns, but the RAE has removed them.

Neutral demonstratives

This and That have neutral forms, too.

The neutral forms ends in O.

Use the neutral this/that for

  • items you can't identify

    • What is this/that?

  • situations

    • This sucks...

    • That is a problem....

    • This is a disaster.

    • That's going to hurt.
