"Brainie" is a documentary about cancer survivor Amy Kavenagh.
In the documentary, Amy will speak about her experience with cancer at a young age - how it completely changed her plans for adulthood as well as how she gained the strength to progress through her treatment. In contrast, Amy will also talk about the opportunities she gained through her cancer treatment - including leadership work for a cancer support charity. Amy's family and friends will provide an outsider's perspective on Amy's courage and resilience through an incredibly painful illness.
Intertwined with Amy's story will be a visual exploration of the healing power of dance - an activity that has been a constant in Amy's life before, during and after her cancer experience.
Amy's Background
Amy is a 25 year old who lives in Perth. She loves dancing, writing, and her two dogs Buddy and Farley.
Amy was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2018, due to a diagnosis of neurofibromatosis as a child. Her condition debilitated her; transforming her from a completely independent person to having to rely on someone to help her with everything.
Since becoming cancer free, Amy has become an active youth leader and ambassador for CanTeen; sharing her story through CanTeen's online cancer support platform and social media videos to provide comfort to others who may be going through a similar experience.
