The Infection (A 'The Thing' Fanart Piece)
Sculpting and Form Building
For this production, being my first one over this trimester, I wanted to really test my abilities, as well as focus on going into the further stages of production, such as texturing and rendering out the final beauty shots of my creatures, and to do this, I wanted to start off with a creature concept that I could test things on, play around with, but allow for these types of developments to aid in the final result and aesthetic, so what better creature concept to work on than something inspired by one of my favorite creature ever, 'The Thing'.
After I knew what I wanted to do, I started building up a base form of the creature, and then worked backwards seeing what new methods and techniques I could use, to achieve a few gory and visceral aesthetics, muscle and flesh aesthetics, as well as a plethora of organic styles in my sculpting.

Concepts and starting steps:
For this production, I knew I wanted to do something bigger than ever, both speaking in terms of pushing my skills and abilities, as well as literally massive, so what better production to tackle than designing sand making my own Kaiju Behemoth. I have always been obsessed with the Kaiju designs of the 'Pacific Rim' universe, and wanted to tackle this inspiration, and breach into areas of sculpting technique and aesthetic, as well as texturing skills, that I had not worked as strong in pervious productions.
Having my design drawn out, and my references collected, I set off to make a more reptilians and ancient type of creature. I wanted the first look of this Behemoth to be that of intrigue, and the hint that there was a longer story to this creature than one might first think. As I worked on the sculpt, and built up the geometry and form of the creature, I made sure to incorporate these elements into the design, giving it a few battle scars of differing age, to hint at his very long past, and some of the grand battles he had fought in.
