The Audio Team

A group comprised of 4 trimester 4 audio students, Tom, Gigi, Oliver and Zane all of which have specialties in different parts of production on this film. Oliver and Gigi went hand in hand in recording the on-set dialogue and sound along with Tom, whilst Zane focused on the post production editing and score.

Indestructible

The film follows the story of a heavy weight lifting champion and her process to get where she is today, with content from inside the world of powerlifting and exclusive interviews from personal trainers and health advisors that have been there to witness her journey.

Project Process

On Location Recording

We had the opportunity to record three interviews for this documentary, all of which were in separate locations. The first was at Sarah's home, the second was at Sarah's personal trainers home gym, and the third was at Rucci's Gym in Malaga. Recording in these varying environments was as challenging as it was fun, and thus the final outcome was very rewarding. We were fortunate enough to be able to use lapels for every interview, giving us premium quality audio, and we were also able to use a boom microphone for the first and second interview as an extra source in case of any issues. Overall, our recording quality was very high and we suffered minimal issues on set or in post production.

Final Mix

Due to the varying locations we recorded our dialogue, our sessions needed to be organised in such a manner that was clear and coherent for the viewer. This included, but was not limited to colour-coding, setting up of auxiliary sends and VCA's, and categorically processing different elements of audio in a manner that was most suitable to the engineer.

Our primary goal was to make the session flow as effortlessly as the the sound we were trying to create. After a reshuffle of team roles, we achieved a highly satisfactory result. The feedback from Sam was very well received and thanks to the help of some of the Song writing students and Lliam (another student in our class) we were able to create our very own, original music pieces to add to the atmosphere of our documentary.
