Master Plumber

Troy Lindenfelser

Job Description

I am primarily a remodel plumber. So my job is to shift around old plumbing to its new location, while staying in the guidelines of the MN plumbing code. I work on homes of all sizes . So I get to do fun things like tankless water heater and learning how they operate inside the unit . I also get to do bathrooms like you see in magazines with they fancy tubs and showers. It makes you feel good when you get to see what the bathroom or kitchen was before and after you are done and see how the space turned out and how the homeowners enjoy it.

Education and Training

There is always the option to go to tech school to learn plumbing or to just go out on the job and learn from a master/ journeyworker. If you work for a non-union company, you can take the test for a journeyworker test in four years. If you choose, you can take your master a year after passing the journeyworker test.  You will learn things from how to plumb a new house to a commercial building .

Wages

Starting pay is $14.00 an hour and you could make up to$44.00 if you are a master or journeyworker. If you would choose to be a service plumber you could make commission and make up to $120,000 a year .

Career Projection

Plumbing jobs are always dependent on the economy . Right now finding a person to go into the plumbing field is hard . There isn’t a lot of people that wanna go into the trades, as it is a lot of manual labor. In my experience, if you're willing to work hard and can learn the trade, you will do good and have no issue finding a job.

Job Highlights

I enjoy seeing how the home or commercial building turns out and when the owner of the property say thanks for the hard work and we enjoy what you did for us.

Job Challenges

My job as a remodel plumber can be challenging when working with old pipes in tight spaces and not being able to get things where I need them because of plumbing code or structural reasons.

Advice

You gotta take the good with the bad. Not all days will be good. You just gotta work hard to get through the bad ones. Also, make sure to be safe and wear safety glasses and take care of your knees with knee pads.
