Job Description

I grow beef cows and crop farm corn and soybeans. I take care of cattle and crops. It’s my job to make sure the crops and cattle are both take care of daily whether that is planting, spraying the crops for weeds, and harvesting the crops. As well as mixing feed for the cows, giving them medicine when they are sick and making sure they have a clean dry place to lay.

Education and Training

Understanding crop and soil science is a must for this job and well as being a care taker of animals and the land as well as being a mechanic when equipment breaks. I went to college for a degree in agribusiness with a crop science background.

Career Projection

I would say this career is a dying field, there are less and less farmers everyday. However the amount of technology that is involve in agriculture is ever changing each day.

I enjoy running equipment and watching crops and animals grow and all your hard work turning into something in the end.

Job Challenges

Everything is a gamble, we plant seeds and hope we receive weather to allow them to grown and produce.

Advice

It’s alot of hard work but when you see animals grow from a calf all the way up to a finished cow it’s worth all the hard work.
