Productive: Expressing information and ideas in formal oral presentations on academic topics

  • Use Cleanup.pictures to edit images for Spot the Difference activities.

  • Assign students to record themselves (using Screencastify Submit) describing the differences between the original and teacher-edited images.

🔎 Spot the Difference 🔍

Can you spot the FIVE differences between Gustave Caillebotte's original Paris Street: Rainy Day (1877) painting on the left and the edited version on the right?

Spot the difference activities are a fun way for students to practice their oral language skills as they articulate the differences between two images. From USC's Foundations of Reading Instruction course handout titled Essential Features of Designated ELD Instruction: “Extended language interaction between students, including ample opportunities for students to communicate in meaningful ways in English, is central.” Rather than simply circle differences, when students use Screencastify Submit to record their comparisons, they're given an authentic opportunity to practice speaking.

The Answers

  1. There is a background couple missing from the area to the left of the green lamp post

  2. The red wheels are missing from the carriage on the left side of the painting

  3. Some of the corner windows from the large 6-story building have been removed

  4. Wrought iron railing decoration is missing from the left most apartment building

  5. The man in front (wearing a top hat) is missing his fancy bow-tie

All of these image edits were made using CleanUp.pictures.
