This versatile recipe is great any time of day. You can make it the night before and heat it up for a quick breakfast or after school snack.
Garnish and plate with whatever you have on hand - fresh berries, banana slices, Nutella, syrup, whipped cream. Add more nutrients by drinking a calcium rich beverage (cow's, oat, almond, or soy milk, fortified orange juice).
Yield: 6 pieces french toast
Ingredients
⅔ cup milk
2 large eggs
1 tsp vanilla
½ tsp cinnamon
Pinch salt
6 slices bread - whole wheat, sourdough, gluten free
1 TBSP butter
Instructions
Preheat your frying pan or griddle
Whisk milk, eggs, vanilla, cinnamon, salt in your bowl
Add butter to the preheating pan
Gently dip a piece of bread into the egg mixture
Transfer to the hot frying pan or griddle. Cook for 3-4 minutes
Flip. Cook until browned on the other side 3-4 minutes
Plate the cooked french toast and garnish with a dusting of powdered sugar or maple syrup
Repeat this process until all of the egg mixture is used up
Notes
Before beginning: Clean your work surfaces, start your hot, soapy dishwater, and assemble all of your ingredients and equipment
The egg mixture can be made ahead of time, such as the night before for quick assembly and cooking
Store left overs in the fridge for up to two days.
