This week students made chocolate chip cookies - end to end, the whole process! Learners work in groups of five or six and start by choosing roles: Dishwasher, supply manager, dish dryer, and manager. While each role has specific responsibilities, students are encouraged to work as a team. 😁 I set supplies out in the front of the room, and the supply manager brings up their tray, bowls, and measuring equipment to gather what they'll need. They bring their tray of measured ingredients back to their eagerly waiting kitchen group. The next step is following this recipe instructions to create cookie dough.
Because we don't have enough time to bake the cookies right away (our classes are about 45 minutes), learners use a cookie scoop and portion the dough onto plates that are sealed into labeled plastic bags and refrigerated for the next day.
In class the next day, students set their dough onto parchment lined cookie sheets and into a preheated oven for about 8-12 minutes. The aroma in our classroom was fabulous! Students enjoyed their cookies, shared some, and packed some to go after cleaning up their kitchens. Try our class recipe!
