Tuesday, September 6th

Dear Families,

It was wonderful to welcome students back into the building today. Our 6th grade students spent the entire morning with the school to themselves. They took tours of the school, engaged in team building activities, and learned about the school schedule. The 7th and 8th grade students spent the afternoon with their Crew and toured the school to prepare for transitioning to all classes starting tomorrow.

This year we have a new school wide schedule that increases access to related arts, intervention, and core content area classes. All students will have math, social studies, science, and language arts everyday. In addition, they will take two related arts courses, health, PE and a language. We are very fortunate that we are able to offer a section of Portuguese in addition to Spanish and French. Students on the Matinicus team and small groups of 6th and 7th grade students will have access to this new language offering.

We are looking forward to welcoming the entire school tomorrow. Students will experience the schedule and meet new teachers in each of their classes. All students have received a learning bag that contains school supplies. Please remember that tomorrow is an early release at 1:50.

We are looking forward to a year that will hopefully feel a bit more "normal". It was energizing to have students back in the building and we are excited about the.many opportunities that lie ahead! Please take a look at the Family Handbook and send any questions to kingsecretary@portlandschools.org.
