March 21, 2022

Dear Families,

As we inch closer towards the end of March we are busy preparing for student-led conferences next week. The second trimester ended and report cards will be sent home with students at the end of this week. These are good opportunities for parents to learn about what is happening at school and connect with teachers.

We are in the process of looking at all students grade 6-8 that are not currently meeting ELA and Math standards at the end of trimester 2. Those students will be asked to attend Sun School to work towards mastery of standards. Sun School will start on June 15th and run for 2 weeks. If your child is identified you will receive notification in early April. This year Sun School will also include access to activities and sports that will be facilitated by our Athletic Directors.

Thanks again for your continued support and please email any questions to kingsecretary@portlandschools.org.

8th Grade HS Course Selection

This week, 8th grade students received their course recommendations for high school. Parents should expect their students to bring those home. Prospective Portland and Deering High School 8th graders should also be choosing their high school electives on the "King Middle School High School Planning" Google Classroom. There, students and guardians can find all relevant high school course packets and information. CBHS students do NOT need to choose any electives. On March 24, during the school day, students will be meeting with high school counselors to ask questions, and to clarify their recommendations and elective choices.
