March 7th, 2022

Dear Families,

As we begin to make our way through March there is a lot happening. The trimester ends soon and report cards will go home with students. Additionally, student-led conferences will take place at the end of the month. You will be hearing from Crew teachers soon to schedule your conference. These will mostly be virtual, but some may take place in person.

Last week, Superintendent Botana shared an update on the health and safety protocols in regards to masking. He said, "We will watch to see if the pattern of low cases continues through next week – that will give us a full quarantine period since returning from the February break. Next week, we also will work to get our guidelines in place for a transition. We expect the state will revise its Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for schools toward the middle of next week. Our staff will need time to internalize changes to our protocols and work with the families of students who have continuing healthcare needs. We will meet with our collective bargaining unit representatives to ensure that we are communicating effectively to all of our staff as we transition away from required masking. " We will keep families informed as we learn more information in the coming days.

As we prepare for working outdoors during Maine's muddy season we are in need of disposable ponchos and gently used/new rain boots. Any donations are welcome!

Thank you for your continued support. We value your partnership and look forward to the days when we can come together in-person once again! Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions to kingsecretary@portlandschools.org.
