Dear Families,

I want to take this opportunity to give a very special shout-out to our nurse, Lynn Holoday. Today is National School Nurse day and we couldn't be luckier to have Lynn on our team. This year she has been incredible navigating the many challenges of COVID. She supported staff, students, and families throughout the past year and we are extremely grateful. If you wan to send Lynn a message of gratitude her email is holodl@portlandschools.org.

Progress reports went home with students yesterday. Please take this opportunity to check in with your student and reach out to their Crew teacher if you have any questions or need support.

We are VERY excited for our virtual faculty talent show and fundraiser next Thursday, May 20th, at 7pm. Check out the latest preview of the Talent Show!

Thank you to our generous sponsors for their support!

A note about testing:

Dear Families,

During the first and second weeks of June, your child will take a MAP® Growth™ test from NWEA® on a computer. This test is being given across the state to all students. The test is made up a 1-hour Math session and a 1-hour Reading session. In addition, all 8th grade students will also be taking the Science MEA on Thursday, May 20th.

MAP Growth scores help teachers check student performance by measuring achievement and growth. MAP Growth tests are unique, and it adapts to your child’s responses to measure your child’s skill level. If your child answers a question correctly, the next question is more challenging. If they answer incorrectly, the next one is easier. These results will provide a more complete picture of what your child knows and is ready to learn—whether it is on, above, or below their grade level.

MAP Growth reports also provide typical growth data for students who are in the same grade, subject and have the same starting performance level.

Sincerely,

Peter Hill
