Dear Families,

Last Friday our Identity and Culture Day, was a huge success. We want to thank all of our students for their participation in showing off all of the unique identities that make up our KMS community. We demonstrated a safe community that welcomes all and where inclusion and kindness prevail. We intend to make Identity Day an annual tradition at King and we plan to continue to be a school that welcomes all identities every day!

This week a lot of our students are taking the NWEA test. It is an important assessment that we use to monitor student growth. Please help to get your student to school on time.

Recently, we have had a lot of students leave campus after they arrive by bus or get dropped off. There has been an increase in students unsafely crossing the road and an increase in students late to school. Students should not leave the King campus once they arrive. Typically, students are going to the Holy Donut and we do not have the capacity to support supervision across the street. Further, we do not allow sugary and/or caffeinated beverages in the building. Please help support this messaging with your student.

Please remember that next week is Step-Up day for our incoming 6th grade class. This results in an 11:30 dismissal for our current 7th grade students. Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns to kingsecretary@portlandschools.org.

Have a great week!

Caitlin
