MAy 23rd, 2024 - Ucet's #utedchat Ending Next week

Today's Resource Share comes from UCET. If you have been on Twitter as a Utah educator over the last decade, you have probably seen #UTedchat and possibly participated in it. On a person note, I had some of my first interactions with current colleagues through #Utedchat. With that said, UCET has made the difficult decision to send the chat off into the sunset. Its last week will be next Wednesday from 8-9 PM on Twitter/X. Here is a message from UCET President Kiera Beddes:

In May of 2014, John Scoville, Jared Covili, and Derek Larson moderated the first chat of the relaunched #utedchat. During the last ten years, we had almost 400 chats with educators locally and nationally. #utedchat created a great community of passionate educators sharing their ideas and educational insights.

The landscape of social media is always changing and Twitter is no different.  Over the past couple of years, the nature of Twitter has altered and educators are looking to other avenues for connection and learning.

It is with mixed emotions that we announce the end of #utedchat, culminating in our final session on May 29th, 2024. As we prepare to celebrate our decade of learning, discussion, and reflection inside #utedchat, join us for one last unforgettable chat to say farewell.

Date: May 29th, 2024

Time: 8 pm MST

Theme: 10 Year Anniversary of #utedchat

Hashtag: #utedchat

We invite you for a final celebration to share stories and reflections on this year (and the past decade) in #utedchat. Though our weekly chat ends here, we encourage you to continue to build your PLNs and find like-minded communities of passionate educators. UCET will continue to provide resources, and spaces like EdCamp Utah & the UCET conference, for teachers to learn and connect. We hope you continue to be a part of our network.

May 22nd, 2024 - AI Tools for Summer PD

Today's Resource Share is a collection of tools from Google, USBE, and Khan Academy about Artificial Intelligence. As we head into Summer, many of you may be exploring AI more deeply to prepare for the next school year. As we wrap up this year's Resource Shares (they will go dormant this Friday and pick up in August), there are a few tools we wanted to share.

First off, Khan Academy's AI tool for educators Khanmigo was just announced to be free for all educators (caveat only for educators, not for students). You can check out this tool at the link below. Remember to check with your district/school before using a tool in your classroom:

https://www.khanmigo.ai/teachers

Second, Utah State Board of Education recently shared the "Artificial Intelligence Framework for Utah P-12 Education" which has some great ideas and guidance on how AI could be used in your classroom. Explore the document at the link below:

https://www.utah.gov/pmn/files/1105769.pdf

Finally, Google has released a handful of resources to support AI learning in your classroom. Some of these are previous share outs, but they are great resources that can help you prep for next year. Check them out at the links below:

May 21st, 2024 - Using Gemini in Education Playlist

Today's Resource Share comes from Google for Education's YouTube channel. They recently shared a series of videos directed at the different roles in education (classroom educator, coach, administrator, higher education) and how Gemini may be used within their roles. It shows some possible issues each role may encounter and how Gemini can support educators building up their resources and tools. Note, not all districts and schools will have the same versions of Gemini. Check out the playlist at the link below:

May 15th, 2024 - Google I/O in under 10 minutes

Today's Resource Share comes from Google's I/O event yesterday. I/O shares Google's newest advances in their technology including core tools (docs, Gmail, etc.) but also, this time, in AI. There were some incredible features and ideas shown at the event and Google did a quick breakdown of the key insights. Just a note that many of these features are in beta and may take time to get to Google Workspace for Education. You can check out the 10 minutes recap at the link below:

Also, don't forget that we will have our last meetup of the year in just a few minutes at 4 PM at the link below:

May 7th, 2024 - Updates to Utah’s Online School Library

Today's Resource Share comes from Utah Education Network's Utah's Online School Library. The library will experience some changes in July including some new databases available to all Utah schools. Learn more below:

Following an extensive review process, the Utah’s Online Library RFP committee has selected several new resources to enhance the educational resources available to Utah students and educators. These databases will be accessible starting July 1, 2024.

New additions to the library include National Geographic Kids, Sora eBooks, Global Newspapers and others.  Familiar favorites like Gale, Culturegrams and World Book Online will continue to be available.  Click here for a complete list of resources.

Beginning July 1, EBSCO databases will no longer be available in the library.  To assist educators in navigating this change, we’ve created an EBSCO to Gale crosswalk to assist in discovering suitable alternatives within the library.

We are confident that these additions, alongside our existing offerings, will further solidify Utah’s Online School Library as an indispensable resource hub for educators and students throughout the state.

May 6th, 2024 - Teacher Appreciation WEek from Google

Today's Resource Share is a quick video from Google for Education. Today marks the beginning of teacher appreciation week. There are so many reasons for why we all teach, they are rooted in our biographies and help us to reach out every day to our students and fellow educators. Our GEGUtah leadership team deeply appreciates all of our members and the educators across Utah and beyond. Check out this short video about Teacher Appreciation Week from Google For Education:

May 2nd, 2024 - Copy Link to Highlight

Today's Resource Share is a quick tip from Google's Help Center. If you are working on Chrome you can highlight text on any page, right click and use "Copy Link to Highlight". This link can be shared out with any other Chrome user and it will take the user to website and the exact location you highlighted the text. Great for pointing other people to locations on a page and get them the exact information they are looking for at the moment. This is a bit of an older trick/tip, but it is still incredibly useful. May 1st, 2024 - NotebookLM Experiment

Today's Resource Share comes from Google's Lab Experiments. NotebookLM is an AI powered research notebook. Educators can take notes on a project from content area knowledge to education specific topics. AI can then be used to find additional sources, provide critiques of documents, and write a first draft of a project faster. If you have used Google Keep, this experiment should be very familiar except with the add-on of AI. Remember that this is an experimental tool and is still being designed and built. Check it out at this link:
