April 17th, 2024 - Google Drive Dark Mode

Today's Resource Share is a great update to Google Drive. Personally, I love dark mode for many of my apps to help on eye strain and Google Drive just launched dark mode for Google Drive. Next time you launch the web version of Google Drive it should ask you if you want to switch, but if not go to the settings cog, click settings and then appearance. This should be active for all users today, including your students. Learn more about this change:

April 15th, 2024 - Google Vids

Today's Resource Share comes from Google Workspace's YouTube channel. Last week after their Cloud Next event, Google announced a new Workspace tool called Vids. Vids is an AI assisted video creation suite. It looks very similar to Google Slides, but allows users to create a full video using content from their drives while also receiving help from Gemini AI to build out the video. The app is currently in beta and will not be widely available until later this year. You can check out the announcement video with a demo of what will be available at the link below:

April 11th, 2024 - Utah Nearpod Community Meetup

Today's Resource Share comes from the Utah Nearpod Community. They are having their meetup today at 3:30 PM through Zoom. Here is a quick message from their lead Braxton Thornley:

Our next Utah Nearpod Community meet-up will be held next week on the 11th from 3:30-4:15 on Zoom. We would love to see you there!

During our Zoom call, we'll hear quick tips for using Nearpod effectively from teachers and instructional coaches, but we need your ideas and suggestions. We want to hear what you've done (or seen done) that has helped a Nearpod lesson soar. We're also interested in hearing about the unique ways you're using Nearpod to support your students (think Nearpod "hacks").

When you have the chance, take a moment to contribute a quick note to our collaborate board. We'll look at our notes together as a group on April 11 during our meet-up, and we'll discuss how to integrate Nearpod into effective pedagogy. Even if you don't feel like you have a tip to share, you can still contribute by "liking" the ideas on the collaborate board that you'd like to hear more about.

Here are the links you'll need for the meet-up:

As a reminder, you can always find our meet-up schedule (along with agendas) on our community webpage, and you're always welcome to send a message to the group if you have an idea or resource you think would be helpful.

April 10th, 2024 - Google Docs Blackout Poetry

Today's Resource Share comes from Eric Curts over at Control Alt Achieve. On Monday the US collectively experienced an solar eclipse and to continue capturing that in our classrooms, blackout poetry is great activity for students. If you are unfamiliar with blackout poetry, students are given or find a piece of found text. By drawing over the text and leaving certain words clear, they create a piece of poetry. Thanks to Eric Curts we have a great little methodology for doing this using Google Docs and text generators. Check out the post at the link below:

April 4th, 2024 - Use the Pen Feature in Google Slides

Today's Resource Share comes from Google Workspace's YouTube channel. If you did not hear about Google Slides' new pen tool, make sure to check out the following video. While in presentation mode, this tool allows users to draw on Slides in a variety of colors. It is a great little addition to Google Slides that can be used during class to point to specific issues, practice annotation, and more. Check it out at the link below:

April 3rd, 2024 - Musical Canvas

Today's Resource Share comes from Google Arts and Culture. Continuing their building of artificial intelligence experiments that help learners engage with it in creative ways, they just released a new experience called Musical Canvas. In this experiment, users draw a picture using a variety of tools including paint brushes, spray cans, and more in a variety of colors and filters. When the picture is ready, AI analyses the picture and creates a piece of music based on the image. The song can then be shared with the larger community via a direct link.
