May 22nd, 2023 - Summer PD - UEN Courses

This week is the last week for this academic year for our Daily Resource Shares. I will start them back up Monday, August 21st for our next academic year. Just like last year, we will end this year's resource shares with some great professional development opportunities for you to continue your Googley learning this summer (after you take a break and enjoy your well-deserved time off!). So each day this week, I will share a conference, course, or website that you could attend or explore this summer.

First off, we have UEN's course catalog. One of the most common things that teachers who join GEGUtah say is that they are interested in getting Google Certified. Well, UEN has a course for both Level One and Two. UEN works with Google to get vouchers for your exams, so you don't have to pay for them (I also love to give vouchers if you need another attempt). UEN also offers USBE re-licensure or SUU credit (there is a fee for SUU credit). UEN offers self-paced courses throughout the summer to meet your learning needs. Here are some courses they will offer this summer:

Google Certified Educator Level 1 (2023)

Google Certified Educator Level 2 (2023)

The AI Frontier (2023)

Research Ready with Scrible (2023)

Learning on the Go: Mobile Learning (2023)

There are other courses on Adobe, Digital Citizenship, Nearpod, and more. Check out the full catalog here.

May 19th, 2023 - Haiku Imagined by Google Experiments

Today's Resource Share comes from Google Experiments and Arts & Culture. Haiku Imagined takes famous haikus from a variety of authors and uses AI to imagine videos, text, and images to connect with the haiku. It is a beautiful, poetic experience where AI works with poetry to create something unique. There are some amazing poems, but make sure to preview them before sharing with your students. Check out the experience below:

May 17th, 2023 - Google Slides Tier List Activity from Control Alt Achieve

Today's Resource Share comes from Eric Curts' Control Alt Achieve. In his Tier List Activity, students are encouraged to rank ideas, products, or characters on a familiar list that has made the rounds on the internet over the last few years. What students rank is left up to you. It could be concepts they learned in your class this year, characters from a book, or it could be a silly get-to-know-you activity like ranking fast-food restaurants or types of music. Part of the activity is to have students submit their rankings via a Google Form to compare data or if you are a math or science teacher this is a great lead-in for data collection. Eric provides templates for all the activities on his site free of charge. Check it out at the link below:

May 5th, 2023 - Un-Dough! by Google Arts & Culture

Today's Resource Share is another great new experiment from Google Arts & Culture. Un-Dough! is a geo-guesser game where as players figure out a letter in the name of a famous location around the world, the image of that location is revealed slowly from a Claymation-like image. It is a really fun take on geography guessing games and has a deep well of locations from all over the world that any level of learner might not know. Once the location is revealed, players can click on button and it will take them to a tour of the location on Google Arts & Culture. Check it out at the link below:
