January 30th, 2023 - Google Drawing Graphic Organizers from Matt Miller

Today's Resource Share comes from Matt Miller's popular blog Ditch That Textbook. In the next few months, teachers and students are gearing up for testing season and on way to help maintain and elaborate on existing knowledge is by using a graphic organizer. Matt Miller put together 25 free Google Drawing templates for any teacher or student to use. These templates are force copies so that you can make a copy, make them your own, and then share them back with students. Remember to make a force copy link, you need to share your doc so that anyone on the web can view then look at your URL, find 'edit', and change it to copy. I always hit enter to make sure it is a copy link. Check out these great resources below:

January 20th, 2023 - UEN's eMedia PCBL Hub

Today's Resource Share comes UEN's eMedia. Today I am at the Magellan Summit in Nebo School District (shoutout Nebo!) for great discussions about Personalized, Competency-Based Learning in Utah with state and national leaders. USBE just shared their new hub through eMedia on Personalized Competency-Based Learning (PCBL). January 19th, 2023 - GEGUtah January Meetup

Today's Resource Share is our GEGUtah January Meetup from last night! We had a great activity on Google Keep by Deanna Taylor from Jordan School District and a great discussion about how we use Google Keep in our lives/classrooms to take notes, develop to-do lists, and connect our thoughts together. Deanna put together a great resource at bit.ly/gegjanmeet and she would be happy to see you make a copy and use it in your classroom to teach your students about Keep. You can watch the entire session at the link below:

January 18th, 2023 - Tumbleweeds Film Festival

Today's Resource Share is a great upcoming conference/contest for our K-8 students. The annual Tumbleweeds Film Festival is a co-sponsored event from Utah Film Center and Utah Education Network. This year they have great film screenings, conversations with directors, and workshops for aspiring filmmakers. The conference is going to be held on April 21st and you can find out more (including about their fieldtrip program) at this link.

This year they are also sponsoring a film competition for our K-8 Utah students. Students can submit their own film, either fiction or non-fiction, and no longer for 5 minutes. If you are looking for a great way to teach film in the next month or you have a student who already is creating their own films, this is a great program to join. Submissions for the festival are due on February 14th, 2022.

January 12th, 2023 - Following on Google Slides

Today's Resource Share is a great new feature of Google Slides. In Google Slides, you might already know that if you are working on a deck with a team or watching a presentation, wherever a team member or the presenter is on the deck, a small picture appears on the slide in the filmstrip to the right. In a recent update, Google added a feature that you can click on the picture of the person you are looking for in the top right and it will drop you on the slide they are working on and what they are specifically working on within that slide. As an educator, this is a great way to see where work is happening on a shared slide deck with students or during group projects. To see this in action, check out the gif below:

January 11th, 2023 - GEt Googley: Getting Started with Artificial Intelligence

Today's Resource Share is the newest episode of Get Googley from UEN. Over the past month or so, many educators have learned more about Artificial Intelligence due to ChatGPT. However, Google has been using AI for many years to help us with our daily work. This video explores some simple ways to introduce AI to students through Google Translate, Quickdraw, Google's AI Blog, and a great Applied Digital Skills Lesson. If you are curious about AI or want to better understand how it works in education, this is a great place to start:

January 10th, 2023 - Creating Photo words with Google Slides

Today's Daily Resource Share comes from Eric Curts' Control Alt Achieve. His newest post is on Creating Photo Words with Google Slides. It is a great little stylistic change that teachers and students can use to highlight information and ideas within their presentations. He also points out that this is a great activity to set goals/intentions for the new year with a "Word of the Year" challenge to students. Check out the process in his post below:

January 9th, 2023 - Drop-Down Chips in Sheets

Today's Resource Share comes from Ben Collins' blog and is a great update to Google Sheets. If you are unfamiliar, Google Docs added dropdowns into their toolset last year. If you need a reminder, here is a great blog post by Eric Curts at Control Alt Achieve. Google Sheets added this tool to make it easier to make dropdowns. This is great for data-minded educators and helps to make quick assessments of new data. Ben Collins walks users through how to create dropdowns at this link:

January 5th, 2023 - Edcamp UT Reminder

Today's Resource Share is a reminder about EdcampUT this Saturday. Edcamps are some of my favorite events of the year and EdcampUT is no exception. Edcamps are an unconference where sessions are proposed by attendees on the day. Sessions are formed and then they are more discussions than presentations. EdcampUT has a great keynote this year with Lauren Merkley, Utah's 2020 Teacher of the Year and Utah Teacher Fellow. The event is free with breakfast and lunch provided. There are also some great prize giveaways. Registration for the event is completely free and can be found at this link:

January 4th, 2023 - Blob Beats

Today's Resource Share comes from Google Arts and Culture. Blob Beats is a new game that introduces students to classical music while testing their reflexes. Blob Beats is a rhythm game, think Dance Dance Revolution, that asks players to hit notes during classical songs like "Fur Elise" or "Valkyrie". It introduces students to these pieces of music while playing them during the game. Check out Blob Beats at the following link:

January 3rd, 2023 - Capstone Project Lesson Plans

Today's Resource Share comes from Google's Applied Digital Skills program. As we come back from Winter Break and look towards the end of the school year, many of us may want to help our students do a long-term project to end out the year. Google's Applied Digital Skills program has a collection of lessons that help students complete a Capstone project with lessons about scheduling volunteer time to creating a project checklist. It is a great set of lessons that would support both learner and educator in a Capstone project timeline. Check them out at this link:
