Week 2

WHAT WE DID THIS WEEK

• "Finding Out" about our new unit: Our Green Friends (under the transdisciplinary theme: Sharing the Planet), children "planted" bean seeds in Ziploc bags and hung them in our classroom windows.

• Plant Journals: Each student began observing his/her seed and taking notes in a journal. Some have been able to see some changes and new parts forming already!

• Read Aloud: Plants Need Sunlight by Christine Peterson. Children practiced researching and gathering information about the role of different plant parts from a non-fiction text. 

• Comparing plants: Students observe the similarities and differences in between two plants. They created a Venn Diagram to take notes and organize the information. 

WHAT WE DID THIS WEEK:

• Addition & Subtraction - adding by making 10, add a 2-digit and 1-digit number crossing 10.

WHAT WE DID THIS WEEK:

• Independent and partner reading time.

• Focus words ('all' 'al' 'au' 'aw' sounds)

• Star words (August & author )

• Students used a variety of classroom materials to learn sounds/words by heart and write sentences.

• Jack & The Beanstalk: Read aloud and sequencing.

Dear PYP 2 Parents:

This week we learned about the parts of a plant and each kids observed his seeds growing up

•  Roots

• Trunk

• Leaves

We learned  what the planet needs to grow like sun, air and water. 

On reading day we read a story about plants.

On conversation day ask and answer about planets like what the planet needs to grow up? how do we make a planet?
