Week 1

WHAT WE DID THIS WEEK:

• Introduction to our unit on location and maps. Students explored different maps to gather prior knowledge and talked about the continents and countries we come from.

• Story: My Cat Likes to Hide in Boxes by Eve Sutton. Discussion about the countries that are mentioned in the book. Can we locate them on a map? Then each student made a box to hide their own cat.

• Role Play: Travel agency, airport and mapping our school.

• Pink Day: Children wore pink and participated in a cancer awareness presentation.

WHAT WE DID THIS WEEK:

• Math drills (basic addition/subtraction).

• Identifying and naming 2D (square, circle, rectangle, triangle, pentagon, hexagon) & 3D shapes (cylinder, sphere, cube, cuboid, triangular prism, cone).

• Mapping our school: What kinds of shapes do you see? How can we draw them?

WHAT WE DID THIS WEEK:

• Story: My Cat Likes to Hide in Boxes by Eve Sutton. After reading the story out loud, we discussed the rhymes we noticed for each cat.

• Writing: Students wrote sentences about the story and came up with alternate endings.

• Reading: Independent and partner reading time

Students began the new unit with activities that helped to practice different prepositions. They have been working on their communication skills by directing their blindfolded partner from one location to another safely. Students decided to make it more difficult next time they want to add obstacles.
