You have to work with others to take the photographs, but this is an individual assignment.
To repeat, this is an individual assignment. If two of people hand in the same photos, a 50% mark will be divided equally between each of you.
All photos are to be taken at school during class time.
We have studied both posing and lighting. Now it is time to combine everything as we continue on to take informal portraits.
When you are photographing others, keep in mind that expression is most important. Lighting and posing are secondary.
It is also entirely your responsibility to make your subject relaxed. Joke with them, remember the story about my brother as he took photographs of others. Finally a simple compliment can increase a person's face value.
So with that in mind, here is a list of shots you need to include in your informal portrait portfolio. You decide if you want a CU or MS. Just remember that most shots of people tend to be MS and CU.
You should have 15 photos when you have finished.
5 females - individuals -- preferrably different people
5 males - individuals --preferrably different people
a group shot of 5 or more people
a group shot of 2 people
3 portraits just for fun using 18 mm focal length -- go very close, so you see foreshortening. If you use your own camera and have a shorter focal length lens, please use it. Pay particular attention to how the person's face is distorted.
use a variety of the lighting and posing techniques you have practiced.
All photos must be photoshopped, except the last 3 photos w\that you took at a focal length of 18 mm. Only Photoshop 1 (one) of those photos.
Remember to include some portraits where you combine rim lighting with other lighting techniques.
Set your focal length to 55 mm for the individual portraits. If the person appears too big, take a few steps backwards. For your group shots, take a few steps back or zoom out a little.
Of course, you will automatically take about 50 or 60 or more photos. This gives you a security blanket in that the more photos you take, the greater chances you have to capture that one magically awesome photo.
All 15 of your photos have to be Photoshopped.
1. Pick your best 15 shots and Photoshop them all.
Special note: Save any 2 of your photos as a .psd (Photoshop document) for your photoshop mark.
2. Prepare a cover slide called Informal Portraits and include your first and last name.
3. Post everything to Google Classroom.
Marking
Also see the portrait rubric in the classroom.
You will get three marks:
• expression – a pleasant expression (not necessarily smiling)
• posing techniques – no slouching, they are relaxed and comfortable in each other’s personal space, for your group shots (no holes, or spaces between individuals, no blinking, weird or crazy looks, no hand gestures and nor partially blocked faces)
• good lighting techniques – shadows not to dark and no direct light.
