Your first video project is shoot a sequence, called Doors Opening 101. In this assignment, you also change your point of view from following the action to guessing where the action will happen next.
For this project, you shoot in a group of 3 or 4 and edit as an individual. We will be using Adobe Premiere.
In this assignment your subject will walk up a door, open it and walk through. You can have as few as 5 and as many as 6 or 7.
The maximum time it 10 seconds. Here are the shots you should include.
1. LS-EL – shot of door, with person walking into frame shot from behind
2. MS-LA – person raising their arm to reach for door knob
3. CU-LA – person’s had putting his or her hand on the door knob and twisting the handle
4. MS – Depending on the mood, you can pick the camera angle – the door starts to open all the way.
Go to the other side of the door.
5. MS – show door starting to open and your subject’s head peaking through.
6. LS – Depending on mood, you can pick the camera angle – your subject sneaks, walks, runs or bursts through the door.
Remember when editing to perfectly match the distance where the door opens on one side to where the door opens from the other side.
To help with getting a perfect match from one side of the door to the second, when opening the door, make sure you open it very wide on both occasions.
Before shooting, you need to produce a shot list and a story board. Then hand it in for marking.
With your marked shot list and story board is handed back, sign out a camera and tripod to start recording your first video.
