Instructional or Learning Video Assignment

or

Video Blog, aka VLOG

Using video is a very powerful teaching tool. It combines both images and sound to help you understand and illustrate your topic. In a recent survey, 86% of you tube viewers watch video on Youtube to learn something new.

So for your first and only video, you are going to harness the power of video instruction.

Your first step is decide what you want to teach. You can make a video of anything you think people will want to learn. It could be how to bake a cake, fix a car, cut your hair, almost anything.

Next is your audience. Consider their age, gender, perhaps their income. Learning this is called demographics. There is also psychographics (study of mental attitudes) and geographics (study of where you live or are from, influences your attitudes).

Next assemble everything you need for the content, tools, supplies, a cup, perhaps even the kitchen sink.

After that gather all your equipment, microphone, lights, tripod, a camera.

Finally, start to record your learning video. Simple! Right?

Complete your preproduction.

1 Your name and any others in your group

2 For your instructional video, be specific about the age of your audience, are they male or female or both. Do they have lots of money to buy the things they need to make the thing describe in your video. Or do they have to take a DIY route?

Consider and answer these 4 elements.

1 A take away – what skill you want to teach your viewer

2 What is in it or your viewer – how will your video make your audience’s life easier?

3 Structure – the order you present the information. Make sure it is easy to follow.

4 Imagery – use images that demonstrate how to complete your take away. Remember that it is easier to match words to your images, rather then try to find images to match your words.

Length is 2 minutes Maximum. Not a second more or less.
