  • Estimate how much you spend on food in a year.

    • Use the handout in google classroom to total your food expenses for the year

    • Compare your estimate from the beginning to your total that you got from the handout in google classroom.

Day 3:

Using Math to Understand the Economic Impact of Agricultural Issues

  • Develop an agriculture business activity

  • Answer the following questions:

    • 1. What is the purpose of any business?

    • 2. How do we make a profit in business?

    • 3. What do we call money that goes out of a business?

  • Use the business list created at the beginning of class and identify each item as income, expense or profit. Compare your business expenses to a farmers expenses. Are they the same or different?

  • Create a pie chart of these expenses.


Day 4:

Breaking Away from the Frenzy

  • Explore the website www.dhmo.org and identify your top five concerns and record them on paper.

    • What do you think about dhmo?

    • Are there any positive attributes?

    • Do you think it should be banned?

    • Why or why not?

    • What is dhmo?

  • Define disease and outbreaks and come up with a list of outbreaks.

  • Define recall and come up with a list of recalled products.

  • Reflect on economic impact an outbreak or recall can have.
