Everytime a MAG employee is driving whilst clocked on for work, they must operate in accordance with this policy.

Pre-activity setup, safety and equipment checks
The vehicle is checked prior to use; including seat belts, clear visibility through window/mirrors and functional lights
Trailers (if used) are checked prior to use; including tow hitch attachments/chains are secure, trailer lights are functional and brakes(if fitted) are operating correctly
Small personal items may be stored securely within the passenger section of the vehicle; bulky and heavy items are not stored in the passenger section
Trailers may be used for bulky and heavy items or large volumes of equipment
Emergency exits are unobstructed
The driver is responsibility for ensuring passenger behaviour is appropriate; where possible a second staff member is present to provide support the driver by supervising behaviour
Eating and drinking during transport is at the discretion of the Driver; passengers are advised appropriately
The Driver (and other Staff) are wearing appropriate footwear (thongs and not appropriate for driving)
Pre-activity safety briefing
The Driver ensures all passengers are seated and wearing seat belt prior to departure
Obviously, smoking is not permitted in the vehicle
The driver explains and ensures that only small items are transported in the passenger section.
The Driver explains the planned route, approximate duration and nature of the road/terrain; including sections of unsealed
Conduct and supervise the activity
The Driver provides a warning prior to encountering unsealed roads where dust and rough terrain may be experienced
Windows and vents are managed to reduce dust entering the vehicle
The Driver maintains an appropriate speed at all times; at or below the speed limit and further reduced to suit the road conditions especially on unsealed and wet roads and load in the vehicle and/or trailer
The Driver (or other Guides in the vehicle) may provide scenic commentary and/or activity briefings during in the transport
Hitchhikers are not transported
The Driver takes regular breaks at 2 hour intervals with 5-10 minutes of rest; swapping drivers is done to reduce driver fatigue
Conclude the activity and return equipment
The vehicle is returned to Pindari in a clean and functional state; any damage or problems are reported to the Operations Manager
Keys are returned to the Operations Manager (or delegate)
Hire vehicles may be returned to other locations as required
Emergencies during Road Transport operations
In the event of a major incident, the Driver is responsible (as far as possible) for the safety of all clients.
An appropriate emergency response is initiated and first aid is provided
Injured Clients or other road users involved in the accident are ideally transported by Ambulance. However, depending on the situation this may not be immediately available; MAG vehicles, a hired vehicle, taxi or private vehicle may be required in an emergency.
Driver completes a INCIDENT REPORT within 24hours of accident
