The guide conducts a head count and roll call to identify who is missing
Guide: a qualified and trained person in the field whose roll is to supervise participants
PREPARE
Identify exactly WHO is missing
Identify the last know location and time of communication
IMMEDIATE ACTIONS
Conduct a hasty search that may include;
Check the place last known
Check places of highest likelihood and highest danger
Establish a perimeter
Sweep along catching features
If the missing participant is not found during the hasty search; contact the MAG Operations Manager and provide the following details:
Current location
Brief description of the incident
The name/s of people directly involved in the incident
The number of people in the group
A brief description of any first aid and/or rescue actions provided
Detailed description of the type and extent of urgent assistance required
Likely time frames for the group self-sufficiency and/or deterioration of the situation
NOTE: The guide communicates details in a concise, factual and efficient manner; maintaining open communications channels and preserving battery life
Participants are firmly requested to avoid communicating details of the incident with third parties until the situation has been resolved and appropriate notifications have been made
Guide, in consultation with MAG Operations Manager, to call all 000 and contact NSW Police Rescue
EVACUATE/ RECOVER
The guide co-operates with emergency services in the evacuation and/or rescue efforts; Participants may be asked to assist where appropriate
The guide coordinates with the MAG Operations Manager to provide evacuation and/or rescue
REPORT
An incident report is completed for any situations where urgent assistance is required
Operations Manager: emergency contact for day programs (during multi-day programs this would be the Base Camp Manager)
PREPARE
Establish communications with the group
POINT OF NOTE:
Be mindful NOT to jam guides phone as they may need to communicate with emergency services
The guides will be under pressure managing the group and patient.
IMMEDIATE ACTIONS
Ensure the below information is compiled upon establishing communication with the guide
Current location
Brief description of the incident
The name/s of people directly involved in the incident
A brief description of any first aid and/or rescue actions provided
Detailed description of the type and extent of non-urgent assistance required
Likely time frames for the group self-sufficiency and/or deterioration of the situation
The MAG Operations Manager may (in consultation with the guide) liaise directly with 000 for additional assistance from NSW Ambulance and/or NSW Police
Communicate with all contractors and third party providers who are affected by incident with the below message:
"An incident has occurred. As soon as we know more, we will inform you."
EVACUATE/ RECOVER
The MAG Operations Manager coordinates with the guide and emergency services, to provide evacuation or rescue
REPORT
The MAG Operations Manager may notify next of kin during and/or following the incident (in consultation with the MAG CEO)
The MAG Operations Manager may notify land managers, emergency services and/or appropriate third parties following the incident (in consultation with the MAG CEO)
An incident report is completed for any situations where urgent assistance is required

CEO becomes primary spokesman for incident. This includes: next of kin, client management, media, insurance company etc
