It was a busy, short week at Summerside, filled with a lot of reasons to continue to be proud of the work we are doing together! All students in grades 3 - 5 took the English Language Arts (ELA) Ohio State Test (OST) this past week, and they did an outstanding job of writing, writing, writing... and showing all they have learned through the years! Next week will be ELA make-up tests and the Ohio State Science Test for our fifth graders.

New Leader in Me: Student Surveys
New Leader in Me: Student Surveys
Our district is implementing a whole-district transformational process called Leader in Me, which teaches 21st-century leadership and life skills to students and creates a culture of student empowerment based on the idea that every child can be a leader. Our school will be conducting the Leader in Me surveys called the Measurable Results Assessment to learn more about areas of strength and need/growth in our school. In order for us to have a holistic picture of what is going on in our school, we are asking staff members, parents/guardians, and students (grades 4 and up) to complete these surveys.
Students will be asked to complete the brief surveys in May. Surveys can be reviewed below:

Middle and High School Survey (6th - 12th grades)
If you do NOT want your child to take this survey, please complete this “Opt-Out Form” by 4/28. We hope you can encourage your child to participate in this survey. Their input is valued.

New The power of peer editing! Students in second grade shared their writing with a peer, working together to celebrate and strengthen one another!
New Kindergarten engineers learned about the engineering process using the story of The Three Little Pigs. They engaged in reading, writing, economics, science and social studies learning opportunities and then worked to collaboratively build a structure that could withstand the wrath of the Big Bad Wolf (aka a fan:)!

Ohio State Testing season begins this coming week. Please support your child during these weeks with a consistent schedule, getting to school on time with a charged computer and good breakfast and being present each day. The key weeks to protect are as follows:
Third - Fifth Graders: English Language Arts, Monday, April 14 - Thursday, April 17
Fifth Graders: Science, Wednesday, April 23 - Thursday, April 24
Third - Fifth Graders: Math, Monday, April 28 - Thursday, May 1

One of our building and district initiatives is for ALL students to engage in 3 or more ZEARN lessons each week Many students are doing this during independent work time in math class but are also encouraged to engage in this work at home each week too.
One of our building and district initiatives is for ALL students to engage in 3 or more ZEARN lessons each week Many students are doing this during independent work time in math class but are also encouraged to engage in this work at home each week too.
From April 7 to May 16, students have the opportunity to complete 18 Zearn lessons over the last six weeks of school – that’s just three lessons per week! By staying consistent and dedicated, students can continue building their math skills and confidence.
As a reward for this hard work, students who complete the challenge will earn:
*Extra bounce time on Field Day 🎉
*Upgrade your Kona Ice from a small to a LARGE 🍧
New Our is the building average is 56% of our students are completing 3 or more lessons in Zearn each week.

WC Fun Run / Revving Up For Mental-Health Events:
An annual tradition, the West Clermont Education Foundation will once again be hosting the WC Fun Run to raise funds to enrich students’ educational experiences across the district. To add to the fun, West Clermont will also be partnering with the Clermont County Mental-Health and Recovery Board to host both a car / bike show and community mental-health event - Revving Up For Mental-Health. In addition to the vehicles, the event will have booths to share resources available in our community, vendors, food, and several student activities to entertain as well as build upon the Fun Run theme!

May 6 Ballot Issue
On May 6, residents of West Clermont Local Schools will make a decision about the future of
our schools. The combined bond (1.76 mills) and earned income tax (0.25%) issue on the ballot
will determine whether we can move forward with a Master Facilities Plan described below.
This plan reflects years of community engagement—surveys, focus groups, and meetings with the Community Advisory Team (CAT) and Community Advisory Commission (CAC).
If approved, the plan would fund:
● A new 5-6 intermediate and 7-8 middle school on the current middle school campus,
allowing fifth graders to move out of elementary buildings. This transition will create
grade-specific learning environments tailored to students’ academic and developmental
needs.
● A new PK-4 elementary school, reducing the number of elementary buildings from seven
to six. This move balances enrollment, provides a more equitable access to resources,
and maintains the neighborhood school concept while increasing efficiency.
● Classroom additions at Clough Pike and Withamsville-Tobasco Elementary Schools to
address projected enrollment growth.
● Library renovations at Amelia and Withamsville-Tobasco Elementary Schools, along with
a new library at Clough Pike Elementary.
● District-wide upgrades in safety, security, technology, and furniture.
● The total estimated cost of the Master Facilities Plan is $193.1 million, with the state
covering approximately 20% of eligible costs.
We understand that investing in our schools comes with a financial impact. If the measure
Passes:
● The property tax of 1.76 mills would cost homeowners $61.60 per year or $5.13 per
month for every $100,000 of appraised home value.
● The earned income tax (0.25%) would cost a resident with a $50,000 income
approximately $125 per year or $10.41 per month.
● The earned income tax applies to district residents regardless of where they work but
does not apply to Social Security, pensions, child support, or unemployment benefits.

WC_MasterFacilitiesFlyer_Final.jpgWCHS Theatre presents "Mean Girls: The Musical" during the weekend of April 25, 26, and 27th. Tickets are available now and include our West Clermont School District Art Show featuring artwork from all over the district displayed at WCHS.
This production is rated PG/PG13. Though it contains clean language, this show covers mature themes and topics that may be inappropriate for younger audiences. The satirical aspect of Mean Girls may be lost on children, so be sure to explain that this is a cautionary tale, not a model for good behavior.

As you may know one of our big communication focuses for 2025 is producing and sharing more stories about West Clermont. We want to highlight the great things happening in our district and what sets us apart but we need your help to make this a reality! Please send us stories that you know of (happening in your classrooms, school buildings, sports, extracurriculars, the arts, alumni, community partnerships, etc ) that you think would make a great story for us to highlight. We are looking for stories that not only showcase our strengths as a district but ones that also have a human connection. You can upload photos/videos/and information about your story idea/submission. We may use them in various ways - they could be used as longer stories (see below) or as shorts on social media. The more information (WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, HOW) helps us out.
