Dear Summerside Families,
It's the most wonderful time of the year! There is a sense of joy and drive at Summerside at all times with our Summerside Eagles doing an outstanding job taking great care of themselves, others, and our school and community in so many ways. As we head into this last week before our long winter break, know that we are still in full swing academically too!
You can ask your fifth grader about reflection, refraction, and absorption of light in their work with Mrs. Glenn in science class. Our second graders are busy writing from another's perspective, focusing on having a beginning, middle, and end as they synthesize all they are reading about together! All of our students have made tremendous progress in their learning in such a short amount of time and it is exciting to see them celebrate as they meet their winter benchmark goals!
Please be sure to see below for celebrations of hard work by Mrs. Hardy and the second grade in kicking off this holiday season for us and for insight into what is happening in each grade level, upcoming events, including festive spirit wear for the week ahead and the incredible work our PTO is doing to provide opportunities for us to come together!

Taking Care of Others
PTO's Annual Food Drive was a great success! Summerside collected over 600 items! Students helped count and organize the items in service to others. ALL of this food will be shared with more than 45 Summerside families for this holiday season!
Two students won a raffle basket offered by the WCHS food drive for their generous donations!

Our talented second graders performed holiday music for a captive audience both at night with family and friends and during the school day in front of the whole school! They did a fantastic job sharing their musical talents with all! Thank you to Mrs. Hardy, the 2nd-grade team, and everyone who provided extra support, including our PTO, for going above and beyond to make this opportunity for our students so special!

Two students served as Principal and Assistant Principal for the day on Friday. They earned this reward for being the top two earners during PTO's Summerstride Fundraiser. They did an outstanding job of taking care of Summerside throughout the day!
Limo Ride for Summerstride earners of $400 or more!! Sweet Frog adventures together!
Shout out to the Santa Workshop Elves for providing a special shopping opportunity for our students during the week and the breakfast with Santa!
Breakfast with Santa was a lot of fun!! Thank you to all who joined us this morning to enjoy time with Santa and Mrs. Claus and even the Grinch! Thank you to our volunteers who made this special event possible for our Summerside families!!
