Dear Summerside Families,
We make a great team together! Your student's safety is our top priority at all times and Friday afternoon's event was evidence of how quickly our entire staff activated our trained safety protocols, ensured all were safe and secure, and continued to keep students calm and connected throughout. We are grateful for our incredible Union Township Police Department, especially Officer Ventre's quick actions to take immediate action. Thank you for your continued trust and support as we work together to ensure that all of our students and staff are safe at Summerside every day.
We are excited that our PTO Halloween Spooktacular was able to move forward with such success. Lifelong memories were created for Summerside families and it was certainly a welcomed way to wrap up another great week together! We appreciate all the volunteers that made it possible and all the families that came out to participate. See below for some of the captured fun!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Courtney & Mrs. Edwards
Dear West Clermont,
Over the last several months and years, West Clermont School School District has been diligently engaging with the community through town halls, surveys, focus groups, building tours and more in order to get a better understanding of what YOU want our district to look like moving forward.
The Community Advisory Team (CAT) was formed as another layer of this engagement effort, and they were tasked with studying district facilities. Through our robust engagement with the community, it became clear that our school facilities lie at the heart of so many challenges facing our school district. With the information gathered from the community, the CAT team provided a community-driven proposal for how the district should tackle our facility challenges. Since that proposal, we have analyzed the educational, operational and financial implications and will bring an additional option for the Board to consider on October 28th.
As always, our Board and district team want to get as much feedback from you as possible. That's why today we are launching another facilities survey based on the combined community-driven proposals and analysis. You can take that survey HERE or scan the QR Code below.
Our district is rapidly approaching a decision point...which will ultimately be an inflection point in the history of our district. We NEED your final input and direction so we can make decisions that best reflect what YOU want for our district and community. I encourage you to take this survey and stay engaged as we continue to move through this process.

New Dear Summerside Families,
Summerside will be welcoming volunteer licensed therapy dogs into our school day again this year in partnership with the organization, Pet Partners of Greater Cincinnati. Students may be in contact with a therapy dog, throughout the school year, under the direct supervision of a fingerprinted volunteer and/or Summerside staff members. The therapy dog has received and is up to date on all necessary vaccinations and certifications.
Therapy dogs provide many benefits. They help children learn compassion, empathy, responsibility, respect, and self-discipline. Therapy dogs offer comfort and non-judgmental love. Studies have proven that even a short amount of time with a dog can decrease levels of anxiety and increase emotional security.
If you are okay with your child attending, there is no need for any action as we simply wanted to provide written awareness of this exciting, helpful opportunity.
If you prefer for your child not be allowed to interact with the therapy dog please email your child’s homeroom teacher and copy me on it too. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the school.
Sincerely,
Lisa Courtney

CAT Team Discusses Master Facilities Analysis
Dear West Clermont:
The West Clermont Community Advisory Team (CAT) convened on October 17, 2024, to discuss the master facilities information update recently provided to the BOE by the superintendent’s team.
The CAT team learned their proposal must have an additional scope of work be added to the original plan to ensure all facility challenges across the district are met. The updated scope of work includes safety, technology, and furniture updates at all West Clermont Schools, additional classrooms at Clough and W-T, a new library at Clough and renovated libraries at Amelia and W-T.
The CAT team discussed a new proposal based on information provided by the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission (OFCC) which includes an updated district configuration proposal including: 6 elementary schools, a 5-6 intermediate school and 7-8 middle school on the middle school campus and preschools at 3 sites (Willowville, Summerside, and New Elementary School). West Clermont Treasurer Dan Romano shared how the buildings could be funded with the following voter approved options: property tax, income tax, or combination of both.
The superintendent’s team collected feedback from the CAT team and has an updated process schedule moving forward:
October 28th: BOE meeting-the BOE will discuss all master plan options on the table
Late Oct/Early Nov: Stakeholder Facility Survey
Nov. 6th: BOE meeting at WCMS-the superintendent will share final recommendation and call for a Board vote.
Nov. 14th: Tour of WCMS and Town Hall
Nov. 25th: BOE meeting-possible Resolution of Necessity
Dec. 9th: BOE meeting-possible Resolution to Proceed
*The Nov. 25 + Dec. 9th decisions will determine if there will be an issue on the ballot in May
