Dear Summerside Families,
It was another outstanding week at Summerside filled with opportunities for our students to take ownership of their learning. As we prepare for parent-teacher conferences, we are setting goals with each student to help guide our collective efforts in helping them learn, lead, and succeed this year. Thank you to all who have already signed up for a conference. If you have not yet, there is still plenty of room to connect with your child's teacher. See below.
We hope you can join us for the Merwin Town Hall on 10/9, to be a part of our Blazing New Trails together. Please see below for a parent school safety survey we encourage all to complete.
We have a shortened next couple of weeks as our teachers work on report cards leading into our fall break. Please note that we do not have school this coming Friday, 10/11 - Monday, 10/14. When we return on Tuesday, 10/15, our PTO Fall Book Sale will be up and running. An exciting time of year for sure! We hope all enjoy your extended fall weekend next weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Courtney & Mrs. Edwards
2024 Homecoming Parade!
Grand Marshal,
Ms. Emery!
Thank you to all who came out to be a part of this annual WC celebration!
Learning, leading and succeeding!!
October is School Safety Month in Ohio, and West Clermont is administering an anonymous and optional school safety survey to all WC parents. The goal of this survey is to capture parent perspectives on school safety and wellness. The results of this survey will be shared with the Board of Education, staff, and parents/guardians of WC students. When completing this survey, know it is not expected that all have observations or insight on every survey topic. We encourage you to be as specific as possible in all open-ended questions as they are incredibly valuable and are carefully read.
PARENT AND GUARDIAN SURVEY: LINK TO THE PARENT/GUARDIAN SURVEY
October is School Safety Month in Ohio, and West Clermont will be administering an anonymous and optional school safety survey to 5th through 12th graders in our district the week of October 7th. The goal of this survey is to capture student perspectives on school safety and wellness. The results of this survey will be shared with the Board of Education, staff, and parents/guardians of WC students. The survey questions are similar to what is asked in the parent survey. If you would like to review the entire student survey, email info@westcler.org. If you would like to opt your student out of the survey, complete this form. We hope you can encourage your child to participate in this survey. Their voices matter.
You may have seen and met some of our PTO leaders in our front car line the past two days as they are volunteering to support a smooth start to everyone's day! Here are a few action steps we are working to help all understand:
We need all families to follow our car line procedures noted below and in previous updates .
More families are parking and walking across the lanes which is a safety concern. It also holds up traffic as cars stop to let individual families go. This will especially be important as we head into the colder months ahead.
Our second lane begins at 9:15 when you see our head custodian outside. The cars closest to the red curb should begin this lane. Cars need to remain in their place to join this lane, not go around the car line to start this lane as that is a safety concern.
For families who need to get to work, we encourage you to use our breakfast opportunity noted below as the cost of a breakfast is well worth the additional 30 minutes of supervision.
Students who arrive at school on a bus will be invited to unload as early as 8:50 if they are eating breakfast. All others will remain on the bus until 9:18 when we unload to bring students into the school.
Our front entrance is reserved for our parent drop-off car line. If you are planning to drive your child to school this year, all cars are to remain in a single-lane line along our red curb lane in front of the building, following the flow of traffic to ensure we are not blocking traffic at any time to allow parents who wish to drop their children off in the morning for breakfast. Once there are school staff present out front at 9:15 am to direct traffic, we will begin to move into a two-lane drop-off system.
A few key points to keep everyone safe in our car line in the morning:
Students should have their backpacks on and ready to get out of the right side of the car.
Parents should remain in their car unless a student needs support unbuckling.
Students unload from the right side of the car at the start of the red curb.
Parents are not to park to walk their child up to the front door unless agreed upon with a building administrator and procedures are reviewed. If you have to park for a unique situation, please remain in the parking lot until both lines of traffic are stopped before stepping onto the middle easement to allow traffic to flow safely.
Our car line should not move until directed by staff.
Stay in your lane at all times.
Breakfast* will be served beginning at 8:50 am in the cafeteria and parents are permitted to use the second lane on the left to pull to the front of the building to drop off their child. There will be a staff member at the front door starting at 8:50 am to monitor the unloading for breakfast. Please do not drop your child off earlier than 8:50 am.
*It is important to note that any child who is dropped off early, between 8:50 - 9:20 am, will be charged a breakfast each morning as they are not permitted in the building otherwise because we do not have staff available to monitor their safety. Please be mindful of moving vehicles and students walking at all times.
We encourage ALL families to partner with their child's teacher during the fall conferences.
PTO is hosting a book fair during conferences on 10/16. We encourage you to celebrate your child's hard work with a special trip to the book fair that evening as all are welcome, even if your conference night is scheduled the week prior.
Our mission is to commit to excellence, with every learner, every day, in every way. Thanks to the generosity of local organizations who work to serve our Summerside students, we are able to continue our Weekend Food Bag Program and Holiday support as an option for our students in need for the 2024 - 25 school year. If you are interested in your child participating, please complete the linked form below.
We are finalizing our Giving Tree and Holiday Food support for the holidays by Friday, October 11. Please indicate on the following form if you are interested in being connected to these agencies.
