Today in place of our reading and writing meets, we are continuing our celebration of Book Week with this interactive and educational musical adventure. This fun filled and energetic performance will bring together the elements of great storytelling to engage students in the joy of reading.

Think about the performance you just watched. What was your favourite part? What did you learn?
Now write a recount about the performance, imagine someone who missed the performance is reading your recount. You need to be detailed and write about all the parts you enjoyed and what you learnt, so they will want to watch it too!
Use the success criteria below to make sure you have all of the features you need to write a recount. Tick the boxes after you have added those features to your recount.
The more ticks you earn the better your cupcake will be. The better the cupcake the better your recount!
Commas, full stops, question marks, exclamation marks, dashes and semicolons tell us when to pause when reading.
Watch Rebecca, our 1S student teacher, read 'Smudge' by Julie Sykes and Jane Chapman.
When Rebecca is reading, she looks ahead for punctuation. Rebecca reads up to the punctuation in one breath, then takes a break. She then reads the next group of words until she sees another punctuation mark. When Rebecca sees "talking marks" she adds expression using her best storyteller voice.
Read one or more of the pages below using the punctuation inside the sentence to guide you (recording yourself is optional) .
Remember to read up to the punctuation, take a short break, and then read the next group of words.
