Task 1: Watch the read aloud and then fill out the character profile sheet

Watch the story titled 'Do NOT Open This Book' by Andy Lee. It is a funny story with a unique and interesting main character.

Character profile activity

Then fill in the character profile by using words or pictures to describe the monster character from the book. What does he look like, sound like and how does he behave? The add any other information about him and draw a picture in the middle to complete this activity.

Task 2: Watch the award winning book for Book Week

Watch one of the award winning books for this year to celebrate Book Week 2021.


Task 3: Read a book (or 2!) on Active Learn

Active Learn

Active learn is an online platform that provides levelled books suited for the students, we would like you to read at least one book a day and this can be accessed on www.activelearnprimary.com.au

Their log in information should be at the back of their magic words book.

Task 4: Kite writing

Watch the video 'Lets Make a Kite', then design or make your own kite.

Using your writing, tell us about how you have made a kite or how the lady made the kite in the video. We would like you to write a step by step procedure on how to make a kite.

eg. Step 1 - Get all the materials.

Step 2 - Cut the plastic to shape.

Writer's checklist

(students are encouraged to pick 1-2 things to focus on during a writing session)

  • I have used lower case letters.

  • I have sounded out my words.

  • I have used full stops at the end of my sentences.

  • I have used finger spaces in between my words.

  • I have tried my hardest.


Optional task: Typing Practise

Practise recognising letters and finding them on your keyboard through playing keyboard jump. To play this game you will require a laptop or computer.
